Called for Jury Duty—Again!
It’s hard to believe, but I’ve just been picked for jury duty for the third time. In the United States, when someone faces criminal or civil prosecution, the judicial system relies on a jury of 12 "peers"—meaning a group of ordinary, equal citizens selected randomly from the local community to represent a fair cross-section of society. This ensures that a case is judged fairly by everyday people rather than solely by government officials.
The first time I went through this process, I reported to the Miami-Dade County Courthouse in downtown Miami. They gathered a huge crowd of us into one large jury assembly room and gradually called names in groups throughout the day. Fortunately, they had movies playing on the screens to pass the time, so the day went by surprisingly quickly. I waited there until 3:00 PM and was thrilled when I wasn't ultimately selected for a panel. The second time I received a summons, I wasn't selected either, which was another small victory!
This time, however, I’ve been told to watch my inbox for an email tomorrow (November 6th) with final instructions on whether I actually need to report to court on Monday. My fingers are crossed that the email lets me off the hook once again!

How the Selection Process Works
If I do have to report, there is always a chance I could be chosen for a panel. The selection process typically unfolds in stages:
The Initial Pool: A large group of citizens is summoned to the jury room at the courthouse.
The Questionnaire & Interviews: Attorneys from both sides (the prosecution and the defense) begin questioning potential jurors to vet them. They often ask about personal beliefs, backgrounds, and viewpoints. If someone expresses extreme or radical biases, lawyers are much more likely to use a peremptory challenge or strike for cause to remove them from the panel.
Getting Noticed: Why do some people get called over and over again while others never see a summons? A big factor in my case is likely voter registration. Courts draw potential jurors from public records like voter rolls to keep the panel representative. Because I’ve been an active voter ever since becoming an American citizen, my information stays active in the state's database, making me a frequent candidate for selection. Citizens who don't register or vote often fly under the radar of the system.

I am so happy today! Following yesterday’s midterm election, Democrats won key races across the country, securing control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Leading up to the vote, reports showed Elon Musk spending hundreds of millions of dollars through his super PACs to support Trump-aligned Republican candidates. His clear objective was to maintain a Republican majority in Congress to preserve a favorable regulatory environment.
A primary example of these financial stakes is the massive scale of government backing and tax benefits associated with his companies. Analysis shows SpaceX receiving over $1.9 billion through federal contracts and subsidies, alongside Tesla utilizing more than $1.1 billion in federal tax relief to offset corporate earnings.
Given those figures, investing an estimated $446 million to $474 million through political action committees to back Republican candidates in these midterms is a small price for him to pay. Added to the nearly $300 million he poured into the 2024 election, it is a modest spending commitment relative to the corporate returns involved.
That is why we should be ecstatic that Democrats have taken control of both the House and the Senate. With Republicans no longer holding absolute control over the legislative branch, we finally have a vital balance of powers restored to our government. This division of power ensures Congress can begin curtailing tax loopholes for billionaires, checking executive authority, and restoring true political accountability.
We, the people, have spoken through the vote.

Today is election day. While it might not carry the massive turnout of a presidential election, it is still critically important. Control of key offices hangs in the balance; if the Democratic party manages to take control, Republicans could lose a significant share of their power, and the political momentum around Trump could begin to wane.
Yesterday, I actually wrote about feeling hesitant to vote at all. It’s not that I’m vacillating between candidates—it’s just that the system itself feels broken and in need of a serious overhaul. But my childhood friend, Alfredo, encouraged me to exercise my vote anyway. He reminded me that even a single vote can make a difference. It’s like that last single degree of temperature that finally brings water to a boil, or that one extra push that sparks greatness. That is what I’m hoping for today: that one vote really can change it all.
Every single vote counts. After finishing my workday at 12:00 PM, I will head straight home and find the closest precinct to my house. The polls remain open until 7:00 PM, so I will have plenty of time to make it there.
I plan to call my mom later to see if she wants to go together. At 88 years old, she has a hard time walking and moving around, so she might not be able to make the trip, but I will definitely ask and try.

Tomorrow is election day, but for the first time in nearly thirty years as a naturalized American citizen, I will not be casting a ballot.
Ever since I took the oath of citizenship almost three decades ago, I have exercised my right to vote in every single election. I considered voting not just a civic duty, but a sacred privilege—a tangible way for everyday individuals to shape the future of our country.
Over the past few years, however, it has become painfully clear that our political system has gone terribly wrong.
Influence and money in politics are not new; I have always been aware of the role lobbyists play behind closed doors. But what we are seeing now has reached a tipping point. Today, mega-wealthy oligarchs and corporate titans no longer even try to hide their influence. They are blatantly funneling massive amounts of wealth to specific candidates, effectively purchasing elections and dictating the direction of our nation.
When money completely overshadows the popular voice, the word "democracy" begins to feel less like a reality and more like a label we pretend still applies.
Because of this, I have decided not to participate in this election. This decision isn't borne out of apathy, but out of a deep refusal to legitimize a system that treats citizenship as secondary to capital.
Please keep in mind that this is strictly my personal opinion and decision. I still strongly encourage everyone to exercise their voice and vote tomorrow. One of the unique freedoms of living in this country—unlike many others around the world—is that you have the right to choose whether to vote or not.
Perhaps in the near future, real reform will give power back to the people. Until then, I will step back, reflect, and watch to see where we go from here.

Teaching was never something that caught my attention, but after I "semi-retired," I started doing it purely by chance. To be honest, I stopped working because my last job was driving me crazy.
One summer morning, I went out for a bike ride to exercise, and I noticed a small sign by the sidewalk that read: "If you want to teach, call this number." At first, I didn't pay much attention and rode a few meters ahead, but then I thought, "Hmm, that seems like a good opportunity." So I turned back, wrote down the number, and sent them a message a couple of hours later. They replied immediately and asked when I would be available to meet. Since I’m a morning person, I said Monday morning.
When I went in, they reviewed all the qualifications required to teach in Miami-Dade Public Schools, and I was a great fit. I also went through a rigorous FBI background check, which took a few weeks, but as expected, everything came back completely clear.
I’ve been doing that for over a year now, and around that same time, I decided to start teaching English as well. The goal was to teach from home, so all my classes are online. It took a few months to get my first student, but it’s been a great journey. I teach all proficiency levels, though I work mostly with adults. As I always say, learning a new language is no easy task, but with discipline and the right attitude, anyone can do it—and I make sure to keep the classes fun and engaging.
My program consists of 2 classes per week, for a total of 8 classes a month. I always tell my students that they need to go above and beyond what we do in class to truly learn. Practice often, and don't be afraid of making mistakes. Sure, people might occasionally laugh at an accent or a mispronounced word, but that’s how we grow as human beings. If we never make mistakes, we never learn anything. That’s a philosophy for learning, as well as for life.

Compro bastantes cosas por Amazon. Lo hago principalmente por conveniencia y porque, siendo honesto, algunos precios son realmente buenos. Compro de todo: desde partes para la bicicleta de los chicos y accesorios de todo tipo, hasta productos de supermercado.
El sábado por la mañana hice un pedido pequeño de comida; solo unas pocas cosas. Lo ordené temprano porque así podían programar el envío para el mismo día, entre las 2:00 p.m. y las 6:00 p.m. Generalmente son muy puntuales, pero esta vez fue distinto. Pasadas las 2:00 p.m., revisé la aplicación y vi que habían retrasado la entrega para las 10:00 p.m. Me pareció raro, pero me dije a mí mismo: «Bueno, esperaré». Se han volcado a ciegas a la Inteligencia Artificial creyendo que un algoritmo va a resolver el 100% de las interacciones humanas, ahorrándose millones en el camino.
No estoy en contra de la tecnología; la IA puede ser útil en ciertos procesos, pero no puede reemplazar la empatía ni el sentido común. Hoy en día, hablar con un ser humano en estas plataformas es una odisea casi imposible. Y esto nos lleva a una pregunta inevitable: si la IA se va a encargar de todo para recortar costos y personal, ¿qué va a pasar con los empleos de la gente? ¿De qué van a vivir los humanos si los terminamos desplazando por completo?
La paradoja del creador en la era de los gigantes
Mientras cerraba la pantalla del chat, lleno de frustración, no pude evitar sonreír con cierta ironía al recordar algo fundamental: yo mismo publico y vendo mis libros en Amazon.
Es el gran dilema del autor independiente en el siglo XXI. Por un lado, reconocemos que plataformas como esta han democratizado el acceso para que escritores, artesanos y pequeños emprendedores podamos llegar a lectores y clientes en todo el mundo sin intermediarios tradicionales. Pero, por el otro, nos vemos atrapados en un ecosistema que, en su afán de automatizarlo todo y maximizar ganancias, va perdiendo el alma y el respeto por el individuo.
Depender de una plataforma no significa que debamos callar ante sus fallas. Al contrario: como usuarios, compradores y autores que alimentamos ese sistema todos los días, tenemos el derecho —y la responsabilidad— de exigir que la tecnología sirva para conectar y resolver, no para levantar muros insalvables entre las personas.
Compañías como esta han perdido el suelo. Por eso creo que la respuesta está en nuestras manos. I buy quite a few things on Amazon. I do it mostly out of convenience, and to be honest, some of their prices are really good. I buy all sorts of things: bicycle parts for the kids, various accessories, and even groceries.
Last Saturday morning, I placed a small grocery order—just a few items. I ordered early so they could schedule delivery for the same day between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. They are usually very punctual, but this time was different. Past 2:00 p.m., I checked the app and saw that the delivery had been pushed back to 10:00 p.m. I found it strange, but I told myself, “Well, I’ll wait.” However, close to 7:00 p.m., I received an email notifying me that the package wouldn't arrive until the next day.
At that moment, I decided it wasn't worth it anymore: if I had to wait until Sunday, I preferred to go straight to the supermarket and do my shopping myself.
I opened the Amazon app intending to cancel the order. I searched and searched and searched... but the option simply wasn't anywhere to be found. After going in circles, I finally managed to reach the AI assistant chat. The problem with these bots is that they are programmed so rigidly and narrowly that they only respond to preset scripts; when your situation falls outside the playbook, they are completely useless. Seeing that I was getting nowhere, I demanded the system connect me with a real person.
After a few minutes of waiting, I was connected to a human agent. I explained what had happened and asked them to cancel the order. Fortunately, they managed to do it, but that's when the real problem arose.
The agent informed me that the refund would take between 3 and 5 business days to reflect in my account. I immediately called them out: Why is it that when you buy something, Amazon takes the money in a millisecond, but when it comes to giving it back, it takes up to five days? It’s an abusive standard that shouldn't be acceptable.
I asked to speak with a supervisor or someone else who could offer a fairer solution. The new agent who assisted me seemed to understand the issue and proposed an alternative: issuing the refund as Amazon credit so it would be available that same afternoon for another purchase. They assured me the credit would show up in 2 to 4 hours. I trusted them and closed the chat.
Hours later, I checked my account again. Nothing. No credit, no confirmation, absolutely nothing. The agent's promise vanished into thin air.
This experience left me thinking about a much deeper problem. Tech giants like Amazon have grown so massive that they’ve forgotten the most fundamental thing: real customer service. They have blindly turned to Artificial Intelligence, believing an algorithm can solve 100% of human interactions while saving millions along the way.
I am not against technology; AI can be useful in certain processes, but it can never replace empathy or common sense. Nowadays, talking to a human being on these platforms is an almost impossible odyssey. And this leads to an inevitable question: if AI is going to handle everything to cut costs and staff, what will happen to people's jobs? How will humans survive if we end up completely displaced?
The Creator's Paradox in the Age of Giants
As I closed the chat screen, full of frustration, I couldn't help but smile with a certain irony as I remembered something fundamental: I publish and sell my own books on Amazon.
It’s the ultimate dilemma of the independent author in the 21st century. On one hand, we recognize that platforms like this have democratized access, allowing writers, artisans, and small entrepreneurs to reach readers and clients worldwide without traditional middlemen. But on the other hand, we find ourselves trapped in an ecosystem that, in its rush to automate everything and maximize profits, loses its soul and respect for the individual.
Depending on a platform doesn't mean we should stay silent about its flaws. On the contrary: as users, buyers, and authors who feed that system every day, we have the right—and the responsibility—to demand that technology serves to connect and solve, not to build insurmountable walls between people.
Companies like this have lost touch. That is why I believe the answer is in our hands. The only way to make giants like Amazon rethink their ways and realize we are not mere numbers on a screen—and for executives like Jeff Bezos to remember who sustains their empire—is by remembering the power we hold as consumers and creators.
Perhaps it's time to demand more humanity, support local commerce more, and value those who haven't lost direct human contact. At the end of the day, "the people" still hold the power... we just have to remember to use it.

"Thank God It’s Friday!"
TGIF! That was one of the very first phrases I picked up after arriving in the U.S. back in 1978. There was even a catchy song with that title that quickly became one of my absolute favorites. The moment it played, my mood instantly lifted.
We’d grind all week long, Monday through Friday, but when Friday evening finally arrived, two magic things happened: the weekend started, and we got paid! Was it big money? Far from it. Honestly, it was probably minimum wage—or complete garbage—but as a kid, I didn't care at all. Cash was cash! Friday and Saturday nights were made for going out and having fun, while Sunday was for recharging before the dreaded Monday reset.
Dragging ourselves out of bed at the crack of dawn to work like absolute slaves was brutal, especially for a 15-year-old. To make matters even more challenging, I didn't speak or understand a single word of the language back then!
Looking back, it’s the ultimate proof that with focus and relentless drive, any obstacle can be conquered. If you had told that clueless 15-year-old kid in 1978 that he would one day master the language and build a career teaching it to others, he wouldn't have believed it. Today, I proudly help others master English every single day.

"¡Gracias a Dios es viernes!"
¡TGIF! Esa fue una de las primerísimas frases que aprendí al llegar a los Estados Unidos allá por 1978. Incluso había una canción muy pegajosa con ese título que rápidamente se convirtió en una de mis favoritas. En cuanto sonaba, me cambiaba el ánimo al instante.
Trabajábamos duro toda la semana, de lunes a viernes, pero cuando finalmente llegaba la tarde del viernes, sucedían dos cosas mágicas: ¡comenzaba el fin de semana y nos pagaban! ¿Era mucho dinero? Para nada. Sinceramente, seguro era el salario mínimo —o una miseria—, pero a mí como muchacho no me importaba en absoluto. ¡El dinero era dinero! Las noches del viernes y el sábado eran para salir y disfrutar, mientras que el domingo era para recargar energías antes del temido reinicio del lunes.
Levantarse de la cama al amanecer para trabajar como esclavos era brutal, especialmente para un joven de 15 años. Y para hacer las cosas aún más difíciles, ¡en ese momento no hablaba ni entendía ni una sola palabra del idioma!
Mirando hacia atrás, es la prueba definitiva de que con enfoque y determinación, cualquier obstáculo se puede superar. Let’s talk about the Post Office.
Yesterday around 3:00 PM, I went to one of the offices in South Miami. All I wanted to do was mail a document that was very important. I was fourth in line, and there was only one clerk behind the counter. She was having an issue with a customer, and before I knew it, there were at least ten people waiting behind me. The clerk looked incredibly stressed and was not very pleasant.
When it was finally my turn, I told her that I needed to mail this document with tracking and expedited service. She told me to get an envelope and fill it out off to the side. I told her I didn’t want to lose my spot in line, but she assured me that I could just step aside, add the address, and bring the envelope straight back to her once I was finished.
So, I filled out all the necessary information and wrote the exact address of the recipient. When I handed it back, she looked at the address and tried to enter it into her system. She then claimed that it was not a valid address. In the meantime, more people entered the post office. You could feel the tension in the air, and I was starting to feel stressed myself.
I asked her again to try entering the location, but she insisted it was wrong. Finally, I looked at her and said, "So I’ve been waiting all this time, and even though this address is an exact copy, you’re saying it’s wrong?" She simply said, "Yes." So, I left.
The challenge now is that this document has to be mailed ASAP, so I will try again later today. The real problem stems from government cuts, largely driven by political decisions and budget reductions. This is yet another area of government that has been affected, and both Post Office employees and customers are suffering the consequences.
A Lesson in Language and Autonomy
Moments like this reinforce why learning and mastering the language of the country where you live is so crucial. Navigating government systems, dealing with unexpected delays, or asserting your rights when things go wrong requires more than just basic vocabulary—it requires confidence, clarity, and effective communication.
Knowing English isn't just about conversational fluency; it’s about independence. It’s about being able to stand your ground calmly, ask the right questions, and express yourself with precision when facing daily hurdles. When you know the language, you gain the confidence to handle any situation, no matter how frustrating it might be.

Ella estaba teniendo un problema con un cliente y, antes de darme cuenta, ya había al menos diez personas esperando detrás de mí. La empleada se veía increíblemente estresada y no estaba de muy buen humor.
Cuando por fin llegó mi turno, le dije que necesitaba enviar este documento con número de rastreo y servicio expedito. Me dijo que tomara un sobre y lo llenara a un lado. Le dije que no quería perder mi lugar en la fila, pero me aseguró que solo me apartara un momento, escribiera la dirección y se lo llevara directamente a ella en cuanto terminara.
Así que puse toda la información necesaria y escribí la dirección exacta del destinatario. Cuando se lo entregué, miró la dirección e intentó ingresarla en su sistema. I’ve always believed in this concept, but what has happened to me over the last couple of days has been a wonderful reminder of just how powerful our thoughts can be.
For the past few months, I’ve been immersing myself in learning Italian. Italy has always held a special place in my heart—I find it to be one of the most vibrant countries in the world, rich in history, culture, mouthwatering cuisine, incredible architecture, and a melodic language that is a joy to learn.
Recently, my curiosity took a step further. Over the last few weeks, I started browsing real estate listings on Idealista.it, exploring different regions to see if finding a small, inexpensive apartment might actually be achievable. I was mainly just getting a feel for real estate prices and picture-cataloging what kind of living spaces were out there.
Then yesterday, a sudden light bulb went off in my head. Remembering my roots and being born in Peru, my mind made a spontaneous word-play connection: What about PERUGIA?
I typed "Perugia" into the search bar, and what I found was instantly captivating. Not only are the property prices wonderfully reasonable, but Perugia is nestled right in the heart of central Italy—a picturesque location rich in history and perfectly situated for exploring the rest of the country.
Before I knew it, I found a charming little place that caught my eye and scheduled a virtual viewing appointment with the local realtor for 10:00 AM Italian time. Of course, manifesting doesn't always account for time zones! After double-checking the time difference, I realized I miscalculated: 10:00 AM in Italy translates to 4:00 AM my time. Setting an extra alarm tonight is definitely on the agenda—I just hope I’m awake and clear-headed enough to make a good impression!
It all brings me back to that core idea: we truly attract what we put our energy into. The key to turning a quiet wish into a tangible path is simple: give yourself permission to dream it, stay calm, and vividly visualize it taking shape. Once you align your mindset, the practical details fall into place. After all, once I settle into life in Italy, I can always share my passion for languages by teaching Spanish and English locally or online.

Yet, just as not everyone is born a painter, not everyone feels naturally drawn to writing. It requires patience, discipline, and the courage to face a blank page. But here is the empowering truth: no one is locked into a fixed set of talents. With consistency, dedication, and daily practice, we can develop any skill and become anything we set our minds to. It is entirely up to you.
Remember, life is not a race. You do not need to rush to the finish line; you only need to take consistent steps forward on your own unique path.

El fluir del tiempo y el arte de habitar el presente
Cuesta creerlo, pero este año termina en apenas noventa días. Cuando uno es joven, los días y los años parecen avanzar con una lentitud pausada; o al menos esa es la ilusión con la que tejemos nuestra juventud. Sin embargo, algo cambia sutilmente conforme acumulamos años, madurez y esa valiosa capa de experiencia que nos regala la vida.
De repente, el tiempo vuela. Puede llegar a ser un tanto desconcertante, incluso abrumador, percatarse de cómo la vida se desliza entre los dedos. Es como ir a la orilla de un río cristalino, intentar atrapar el agua con las manos abiertas y ver cómo se escapa indetenible entre los espacios que dejamos. No podemos retener el caudal.
La verdadera clave, por lo tanto, no reside en aferrarnos a lo que se marcha, sino en aprender a saborear el instante. En reconocer la inmensa fortuna de haber caminado hasta aquí, de haber sentido, aprendido y recorrido este trayecto. La existencia no se mide por el tiempo que logramos retener, sino por la profundidad con la que habitamos cada segundo.

Hard to believe, but this year ends in ninety more days! When one is younger, the days and the years go by slow... or at least we have that perception. But something happens when we get a little older, more mature, with more years of experience.
Time simply flies! It can be kind of nerve-wracking to think that life is slipping away from our hands. It's sort of when you go to the stream or a river and try to grab the water with your hands and it slips away. We cannot hold back the current.
The key, therefore, is not to cling to what is passing, but to enjoy the moment and how lucky you are that we have lived this life, felt, learned, and walked this path. Existence is not measured by the time we manage to hold onto, but by the depth with which we inhabit every second.
Enjoy the present, embrace every minute, and live every experience with intensity.

Every once in a while, I simply don't sleep very well. I'm not quite sure what causes it, but it happens—and last night was one of those nights. I went to sleep after 11:00 PM, but although I fell asleep, I had several unsettling dreams. Honestly, I don't remember the specific details of all of them, but I know they weren't pleasant.
They say that dreams have hidden meanings, and my personal belief is that dreams are often a direct reflection of our inner feelings and subconscious state.
As far back as I can remember, one particular dream has stayed fresh in my mind for many years. In this dream, a strange woman of African descent was talking to me about something urgent or mysterious. I vividly remember trying to wake up and scream, but I was completely paralyzed and couldn't break free from the sleep.
Dreams like this usually happen when we are feeling uneasy, stressed, or not entirely calm, and I truly believe that mirrors what happens to us in waking life when we face overwhelming moments. I have to admit, after experiencing that intense, lingering bad dream, I ended up turning on the bedside lamp just to feel a bit more grounded.

De vez en cuando, simplemente no duermo muy bien. No estoy muy seguro de por qué sucede, pero ocurre, y la noche pasada fue una de esas noches. Me fui a dormir después de las 11:00 PM y, aunque concilié el sueño, tuve varios sueños inquietantes. Honestamente, no recuerdo los detalles específicos de todos ellos, pero sé que no fueron agradables.
Dicen que los sueños tienen significados ocultos, y mi creencia personal es que los sueños son a menudo un reflejo directo de cómo nos sentimos por dentro y del estado de nuestro subconsciente.
Haciendo memoria de todo lo que puedo recordar sobre mis sueños, hay uno en particular que se ha quedado grabado en mi mente durante muchos años. En ese sueño, una extraña mujer de ascendencia africana me hablaba sobre algo urgente o misterioso. Recuerdo vívidamente haber intentado despertar y gritar, pero estaba completamente paralizado y no podía salir de ese estado.

I started writing this book because I wanted our journey to stay alive and remain until the very end, documented so that it doesn't get carried away by the wind. It is a legacy for my family and a way to keep my stories captured forever.
Let’s be honest: platforms like KDP are costly and ineffective on their own, and just having books listed there is not enough. The true value lies in human contact—like seeing your books physically in two bookstores in Uruguay—and genuinely connecting with your readers.

It’s a matter of staying focused. Just like anything in life, if you truly concentrate, maintain daily discipline, and visualize your goals, they will happen. This principle has proven true across many pivotal aspects of my life. For instance, long before I had my first son, Daniel, I focused intently on the possibility of starting a family, and it became a reality.
Right now, my two primary targets demand that same unwavering dedication:
1. To distribute and sell as many of my self-published books as possible, ensuring my stories and guides reach wider audiences globally.
2. To build a robust roster of 50 dedicated students whom I can mentor and teach English, helping them unlock new opportunities.
However, achieving goals of this magnitude is a continuous, daily practice. It requires stepping beyond passive efforts; aside from consistently promoting my written works through social media and digital platforms, I need to execute a hands-on outreach strategy. This means directly contacting and approaching libraries, cultural centers, and independent bookstores in countries like Uruguay, Peru, and Mexico to establish physical distribution.
Big visions are built one deliberate step at a time. That is the roadmap, and through persistent daily action and absolute clarity, I know I can make it a reality.

Todo es cuestión de mantenernos enfocados. Al igual que cualquier otra cosa en la vida, si realmente te concentras, mantienes una disciplina diaria y visualizas tus metas, estas se harán realidad. Este principio ha demostrado ser cierto en muchos aspectos cruciales de mi vida. Por ejemplo, mucho antes de tener a mi primer hijo, Daniel, me concentré intensamente en la posibilidad de formar una familia, y eso sucedió.
En este momento, mis dos objetivos principales exigen esa misma dedicación inquebrantable:
1. Distribuir y vender la mayor cantidad posible de los libros que he escrito, asegurando que mis historias y guías lleguen a audiencias más amplias a nivel global.
2. Construir una lista sólida de 50 estudiantes dedicados a quienes pueda guiar y enseñar inglés, ayudándoles a abrir nuevas oportunidades.
Sin embargo, alcanzar metas de esta magnitud es una práctica continua y cotidiana. Requiere ir más allá de los esfuerzos pasivos; además de promover constantemente mis obras escritas a través de las redes sociales y plataformas digitales, necesito ejecutar una estrategia de alcance directo. Esto significa contactar y acercarme personalmente a bibliotecas, centros culturales y librerías independientes en países como Uruguay, Perú y México para establecer una distribución física.
Las grandes visiones se construyen un paso deliberado a la vez. Esa es la hoja de ruta, y a través de la acción diaria persistente y una absoluta claridad, sé que puedo convertirlo en realidad.

Dicen que el domingo es para divertirse, pero cuando vas creciendo, te das cuenta de que también debe ser un día para recargar energías, tanto mental como físicamente.
Hoy quiero escribir sobre algo que ocupa bastante de mi pensamiento últimamente: cómo seguir impulsando los libros que tengo publicados en Amazon y cómo encontrar nuevas maneras de llegar a los lectores.
No es nada fácil.
Reconozco que no pertenezco a ningún «club de escritores» tradicional. Siempre he preferido ser un pensador y escritor independiente. Eso tiene sus ventajas, pero también significa que muchas veces tengo que buscar mis propios caminos, experimentar y pensar fuera de lo común.
Y creo que esto es algo que muchos escritores independientes pueden entender.
Publicar un libro no significa venderlo
Hablemos claro: publicar un libro es solamente una parte del proceso.
Plataformas como KDP ofrecen una manera extraordinaria de poner un libro al alcance del público, pero desde mi experiencia, estar en Amazon no significa automáticamente encontrar lectores. El libro puede estar disponible las 24 horas del día y, aun así, permanecer prácticamente invisible si no existe una estrategia para llevar personas hasta él.
Los algoritmos cambian. La publicidad cuesta dinero. Las plataformas tienen millones de títulos compitiendo por la atención del mismo lector.
Por eso he llegado a una conclusión bastante sencilla:
No puedo depender únicamente de las plataformas digitales para vender mis libros.
Necesito salir de la pantalla.
Necesito hablar con personas.
Necesito mostrar mis libros.
Necesito crear relaciones.
Y, sobre todo, necesito encontrar lectores de una manera más directa y humana.
El contacto personal todavía funciona
Ya estoy viendo una pequeña prueba de que este camino puede funcionar.
Actualmente mis libros están físicamente en dos librerías de Uruguay. Para mí, esto representa mucho más que simplemente tener algunos ejemplares en una estantería.
Representa una posibilidad.
Demuestra que un escritor independiente puede salir de los grandes canales digitales y establecer conexiones directamente con librerías, negocios y personas.
He estado promocionando mis libros y he vendido algunos ejemplares, pero mi objetivo ahora es vender muchos más fuera de los canales masivos tradicionales.
Y creo que esto no solamente aplica a mí.
Puede ser una alternativa interesante para cualquier escritor independiente que sienta que publicar en Amazon fue solamente el comienzo.
Tres caminos que estoy explorando
1. Ampliar la red de librerías independientes
Mi experiencia en Uruguay me ha hecho pensar en algo muy sencillo: ¿por qué no buscar más librerías independientes, pequeñas tiendas, cafés culturales y otros espacios donde los libros puedan encontrar un público?
No todos los lectores descubren libros mediante un algoritmo.
Algunos los descubren porque entraron a una librería, vieron una portada, conversaron con el dueño del establecimiento o alguien les recomendó un libro.
Para un escritor independiente, esa relación directa puede ser muy valiosa.
2. Fortalecer mi plataforma propia
Desde hace un tiempo vengo desarrollando mi propio espacio digital: MetodoMrB.com.
Mi objetivo es que no sea solamente una página web, sino un punto de encuentro donde las personas puedan conocer mis libros, leer artículos, explorar ideas sobre aprendizaje, bienestar, fotografía y desarrollo personal, y encontrar diferentes maneras de conectar con mi trabajo.
Amazon es una herramienta importante, pero también creo en la importancia de tener una plataforma propia. Cuando un autor construye su propio espacio, puede relacionarse directamente con sus lectores y desarrollar una comunidad alrededor de sus ideas.
3. Convertir el libro en parte de lo que hago diariamente
Esta quizá sea la estrategia más interesante.
Un libro no debería existir solamente como una portada en Amazon.
Puede formar parte de una conversación, de un blog, de una clase, de una mentoría, de un video o de una experiencia personal.
Mis libros hablan de diferentes aspectos de la vida, experiencias, aprendizaje, disciplina, cambios y perspectivas. Por eso quiero que el contenido que produzco diariamente también sirva para que las personas conozcan las ideas que hay detrás de mis libros.
Cuando alguien conecta con las ideas de un autor, el libro deja de ser simplemente un producto.
Se convierte en una extensión de su pensamiento.
El escritor independiente tiene que pensar como escritor… y también como empresario
Esta es probablemente una de las cosas que más estoy aprendiendo.
Escribir el libro es una parte del trabajo.
Publicarlo es otra.
Pero encontrar lectores es otra completamente diferente.
Y nadie puede hacerlo por nosotros.
No creo que exista una fórmula mágica para vender miles de libros. Tampoco creo que todos los escritores tengan que seguir el mismo camino.
Pero sí creo que el escritor independiente tiene que experimentar.
Buscar librerías.
Hablar con lectores.
Crear contenido.
Construir una comunidad.
Probar diferentes formas de presentar su trabajo.
Y, sobre todo, no esperar que una plataforma haga por nosotros lo que nosotros mismos podemos comenzar a construir.
Yo todavía estoy en ese proceso.
No tengo todas las respuestas y tampoco pretendo tenerlas.
Pero tengo libros publicados, tengo ideas, tengo experiencias que contar y, sobre todo, tengo ganas de seguir buscando nuevas maneras de llevar mis historias a las manos de los lectores.
Para mí, ese es el verdadero desafío ahora.
Escribir el libro fue solamente el comienzo. Encontrar a sus lectores es la siguiente parte de la historia.

They say Sunday is a day to have fun, but as you get older, you realize that it should also be a day to recharge, both mentally and physically.
Today, I want to write about something that has been on my mind lately: how to continue promoting the books I have published on Amazon and how to find new ways to reach readers.
It is not easy.
I recognize that I do not belong to any traditional “writers’ club.” I have always preferred to be an independent thinker and writer. That has its advantages, but it also means that I often have to find my own paths, experiment, and think outside the box.
And I believe this is something many independent writers can understand.
Publishing a Book Does Not Mean Selling It
Let’s be honest: publishing a book is only one part of the process.
Platforms such as KDP offer an extraordinary way to make a book available to the public, but in my experience, simply being on Amazon does not automatically mean finding readers. A book can be available 24 hours a day and still remain practically invisible if there is no strategy to bring people to it.
Algorithms change. Advertising costs money. Platforms have millions of titles competing for the same reader’s attention.
So I have come to a fairly simple conclusion:
I cannot depend solely on digital platforms to sell my books.
I need to step away from the screen.
I need to talk to people.
I need to show my books.
I need to build relationships.
And, above all, I need to find readers in a more direct and human way.
Personal Contact Still Works
I am already seeing a small indication that this approach can work.
My books are currently physically available in two bookstores in Uruguay. To me, this represents much more than simply having a few copies sitting on a shelf.
It represents an opportunity.
It shows that an independent writer can move beyond the major digital channels and establish direct connections with bookstores, businesses, and people.
I have been promoting my books and have sold some copies, but my current goal is to sell significantly more outside the traditional mass-market channels.
And I believe this does not apply only to me.
It can be an interesting alternative for any independent writer who feels that publishing on Amazon was only the beginning.
Three Paths I Am Exploring
1. Expanding My Network of Independent Bookstores
My experience in Uruguay has made me think about something very simple: Why not look for more independent bookstores, small shops, cultural cafés, and other places where books can find an audience?
Not every reader discovers books through an algorithm.
Some discover them because they walk into a bookstore, see a cover, talk to the owner, or someone recommends a book to them.
For an independent writer, that direct relationship can be extremely valuable.
2. Strengthening My Own Platform
For some time now, I have been developing my own digital space: MetodoMrB.com.
My goal is for it to be more than just a website. I want it to be a meeting place where people can discover my books, read articles, explore ideas about learning, wellness, photography, and personal development, and find different ways to connect with my work.
Amazon is an important tool, but I also believe in the importance of having your own platform. When a writer builds their own space, they can connect directly with readers and develop a community around their ideas.
3. Making the Book Part of What I Do Every Day
This may be the most interesting strategy.
A book should not exist only as a cover on Amazon.
It can become part of a conversation, a blog, a class, a mentoring session, a video, or a personal experience.
My books cover different aspects of life, experiences, learning, discipline, change, and perspective. That is why I want the content I produce every day to also help people discover the ideas behind my books.
When someone connects with an author’s ideas, the book stops being simply a product.
It becomes an extension of that person’s thinking.
An Independent Writer Has to Think Like a Writer… and Also Like an Entrepreneur
This is probably one of the things I am learning the most.
Writing the book is one part of the job.
Publishing it is another.
But finding readers is something completely different.
And nobody can do it for us.
I do not believe there is a magic formula for selling thousands of books. I also do not believe that every writer has to follow the same path.
But I do believe that independent writers have to experiment.
Look for bookstores.
Talk to readers.
Create content.
Build a community.
Try different ways of presenting their work.
And, above all, do not wait for a platform to do for us what we can begin building ourselves.
I am still in that process.
I do not have all the answers, and I do not pretend to.
But I have published books, I have ideas, I have experiences to share, and, above all, I want to keep looking for new ways to put my stories into the hands of readers.
For me, that is the real challenge now.
Writing the book was only the beginning. Finding its readers is the next part of the story.

Hoy ha sido un gran día, y la clave está en no intentar controlarlo todo, sino en fluir con la corriente, tal como lo hace el agua.
Recuerdo cuando era niño en Perú, viendo los ríos que serpentean por los valles. En su gran mayoría, están rodeados de piedras de todo tipo, grandes y pequeñas. El agua simplemente rodea esas piedras de forma natural. A veces hay mucha cantidad de agua y otras veces no tanta; todo depende de la cantidad de lluvia que recibe una zona en un momento determinado.
La vida y nuestros días son muy parecidos. A veces hay una gran crecida de agua o una avalancha de problemas, dependiendo de la época, y otras veces todo es más tranquilo y calmado.
Al final, todo se reduce a nuestra actitud hacia los desafíos que nos presenta la vida. Cuando dejamos de luchar contra la corriente y aprendemos a navegar con sabiduría alrededor de las piedras, encontramos una verdadera sensación de paz.

Today has been a truly great day, and it reminded me of a timeless truth: the key to peace is letting go of the need to control every little thing. Instead, the secret is to simply go with the flow—much like water moving effortlessly through its natural course.
This reflection took me back to my childhood in Peru, watching the rivers carve their paths through the valleys. For the most part, these riverbeds are filled with stones of all shapes and sizes, from massive boulders to tiny pebbles. Yet, the water never stops or fights them head-on; it gracefully bends, weaves, and flows around every single obstacle. Of course, the volume of water changes constantly—sometimes rushing with power after a heavy downpour, and other times slowing to a gentle trickle. It all depends on the season and the amount of rain the region receives.
Human life and our daily experiences are remarkably similar. Some days bring an overwhelming rush of issues and heavy emotions, much like a sudden flood, while other days are quiet, steady, and calm. We cannot always dictate the weather or the external circumstances that come our way.
Ultimately, everything comes down to our attitude toward life's challenges. When we stop exhausting ourselves by fighting the current and instead learn to navigate skillfully around the stones in our path, we discover a profound sense of inner calm. Flowing forward is always better than pushing against the stone.

Mantener el balance en una relación no es algo que ocurra por casualidad; es una danza constante entre dar y recibir, cuidar y sostener. Cuando digo todo, quiero decir todo. La razón por la que menciono esto es porque cuando uno conoce a una persona nueva —una mujer que le gusta— al principio todo es maravilloso. Pero la verdadera clave para la longevidad en una relación es equilibrar todo y cuidar los detalles.
Por supuesto, el amor es fundamental. Vive en las cosas cotidianas: la forma en que le hablas, cómo reaccionas y el respeto mutuo que comparten. Saber dejar ir la última palabra y respetarse mutuamente es primordial. Sin eso, todo se derrumba.
En la época acelerada en la que vivimos hoy, es muy fácil perder este equilibrio. Entre las presiones diarias interminables, las distracciones digitales y la prisa constante de la vida moderna, a menudo nos dejamos arrastrar por el torbellino y descuidamos lo que realmente importa. Las circunstancias nos empujan en mil direcciones, poniendo a prueba nuestra paciencia y dispersando nuestra atención. Sin embargo, precisamente debido a todo este ruido, debemos luchar activamente para mantener ese foco centrado en la relación, exigiendo intención y fortaleza silenciosa.
